Core Values for Parenting

Choose the values that matter most to you, rank them, and see how they might be showing up in your parenting.

Values sit at the heart of who you are. We build them over years — shaped by our parents, our schooling, our community and culture — and understanding your core values, the ones that matter most, is often the key to understanding why you make the choices you do.

They're not always easy to name. Try not to judge what comes to mind — a value is what you are, not what you'd like to be. And there's no "right" word: two people might describe the same value very differently (Honesty and Integrity, for instance) — what matters is that it feels true to you.

This is just a starting point, not a finished list. If you're stuck, think of a time you felt something strongly — happy, sad, or angry. Dig into why, and you'll usually find a value underneath it.

Select every value below that resonates with you. There's no limit here — just pick anything that feels true. You'll need at least 10 to continue. Tap the i icon on a card to read its definition without selecting it.

Now narrow your list down to exactly 10 — the values that matter most to you as a parent. Tap a value to remove or restore it.

Put your 10 values in priority order — most important first. Drag to reorder, or use the arrows.

For each value, rate how well it's currently being honoured in your day-to-day life — 1 = not at all, 10 = fully.

Under each value below, the "how this might show up" text is a suggestion — one way this core value can influence your daily parenting, drawn from how it commonly shows up for parents. It's food for thought, not a rulebook.
